Bellingham, in Whatcom County, is 17 miles south of the Canadian border and is the most northwestern county in the continental United States. It features the Fairhaven historic district, vibrant downtown, and Western Washington University with around 14,000 students. Bellingham is situated between the San Juan Islands and North Cascade Mountains and serves as the gateway to Mount Baker. The city offers numerous hiking trails and has a diverse, growing economy.
