Tony W. Hunter

Tony Hunter is the Chairman and CEO of McClatchy Media Company, where he has led the company’s transformation since 2020. Under his leadership, McClatchy has redefined its business model to thrive in today’s fast-changing media landscape, prioritizing investments in local, differentiated content, innovative digital products, and strategic partnerships that position the company for long-term growth.

Prior to McClatchy, Tony spent over 20 years at Tribune Publishing, where he served as CEO of Tribune Publishing and Publisher of the Chicago Tribune. He successfully guided the company through industry disruption, driving digital innovation and operational change—hallmarks of his career.

Tony also served as Chairman of Nucleus Marketing Solutions, a collaborative digital venture among McClatchy, Gannett, Hearst, and Tribune. He is Vice Chair of the United Way of Palm Beach County and a board member of OneCall. Tony holds a B.A. from Coe College, an M.B.A. from DePaul University, and is a non-practicing CPA.
